But let’s look at the basic fragrances first.
Essential Oils: The Basics
Essential oils are extracted using methods that are suited to specific plants. There are two common methods of distilling them.
The first is mechanical expression, which is specific to citrus as the oils are derived from the skin, rather than the watery fruit inside. The second method is distillation, where plants are boiled, then the oil is separated as the steam turns back into a liquid.
Both of these techniques use a lot of plant matter, which is why essential oils are so highly concentrated in liquid form.

There’s lots of options to choose from, but we promise you don’t have to be an expert to get started with blending oils. Check out our easy picks of the best to start combining. We’ve added their benefits so you can instantly find your mood match too.
If you’re looking to use essential oils throughout your home or on the go, then you should combine them with a carrier oil to dilute the potency of pure essential oils. Common carrier oils tend to be unscented, or lightly scented, so shouldn’t affect the therapeutic nature of essential oils if you’re using them day-to-day.
Carrier oils include jojoba, castor, rosehip, sweet almond, olive and coconut. All of them have unique properties that help with the process of making your own essential oil blends. There’s a general safety rule that if you’re mixing your own essential oil dilution, you should aim for a 1-5% dilution of oils. A 1% dilution is roughly 6 drops per 30ml of oil!
Make essential oils part of your daily routine. Here are some alternative uses that you’ll thank us for later:
Tea Tree oil - The ideal mould and mildew remover! Mix two teaspoons with water into a spray bottle and use it around the house. Don’t scrub immediately after spraying to let the oil work its magic
Peppermint oil - Smelly bins making your kitchen an unpleasant place to be? Add two drops of peppermint oil to the bottom of your bin to combat the lasting odour after you’ve cleaned it out.
Lemon oil - The essential oil from this citrus fruit can be used as part of your day-to-day household cleaning, adding 10-20 drops to your soapy water will leave your surfaces refreshed and disinfected.
Lavender oil - Want fresher-smelling laundry? Add three or four drops of lavender oil onto a fresh cloth and throw it in with your washing. It’ll leave your clothes smelling amazing!
Lemongrass oil - Another oil that works well as part of your cleaning routine. Add a couple of drops of lemongrass oil into your all purpose spray when cleaning out the fridge for a refreshing, long-lasting scent.
It’s especially important when using essential oil blends on the skin that you dilute them in carrier oils and water. Applying directly to the skin, undiluted, can lead to side-effects and allergic reactions, which is why we’ve vigorously tested the newest, wearable fragrance from our BeBalanced range. Wearable Essential Oils: PartyLite Rollerballs
It goes without saying that our lives have never been busier, so what’s the best way to combat those day-to-day challenges and relieve stress?
It could be integrating the mood-enhancing power of essential oils into your daily routine.
The PartyLite Rollerballs collection has been specially designed for taking mood-enhancing fragrances wherever you go. Our specially-blended range of essential oil roller bottles can fit in your pocket and last for up to four hours. We’ve taken the time to make sure that our rollerball blends are safe for the skin, so you can be confident they’re formulated to let you use personal-use essential oils all day.
Do you have job interview nerves, first-date butterflies, or other everyday anxieties? Using essential oils directly on your skin (safely) helps to boost your mood and improves your frame of mind.
There are certain areas on your body that have arteries running closely to the skin. In aromatherapy, applying natural oils on those areas means they can enter your bloodstream (and therefore get to your brain) faster - these are known as pulse points.
Because you don’t need to mix in an extra carrier oil to apply your Rollerball, you can simply use it wherever you are throughout the day to feel the full benefits of the therapeutic blends.
The pulse points are the neck, temple, wrist, chest, inner elbow, back of your ears, and sole of your foot. Each of these has their own advantage for mood-boosting.
Neck - According to aromatherapists, applying your Rollerball to your neck helps reach your brain much quicker through your bloodstream, and means you get to smell it all day! If you’re having trouble sleeping, using a lavender and patchouli blend just before you go to bed will help you relax through the night.
Temple - Everyone knows how hard it is to recover from headaches and migraines, so applying essential oils to your temples can be a huge benefit. If you’re prone to them, applying a lavender blend when you wake up will give you the best possible start to the day!
Wrist - Because there are so many veins and arteries running close to the skin of your wrist, it makes it an ideal place to apply mood-boosting essential oils if you’re feeling a bit low. Four hours of eucalyptus and peppermint will energise you throughout the day, plus you can smell your wrists throughout that time to help lift your spirits!
Chest - The pulse point that helps you recover quicker from blocked sinuses, applying a peppermint essential oil blend to your chest will help free your airways and improve your mood at the same time.
Inner elbow - A pulse point for the brachial artery. Rolling a citrusy blend of mandarin and jasmine here will uplift you through the day, plus people will love your sunny scent!
Back of the ears - This part of your body is where your skin is at its thinnest, so the essential oils can reach your bloodstream at high speed. Applying your Rollerball here while massaging your pulse point will help reduce any swelling and pressure in your head.
The soles of your feet - Your feet contain some of the biggest pores in your body, making them perfect for applying essential oils for fast relief. So kick off your shoes and get back to centre after a long day with a blend of cedarwood and vanilla.
We’ve created our favourite pre-made blends for your home and to use on the body, but what if you want to get creative? There’s endless options on how you can choose oils to mix, and harness their mood-enhancing properties. Let’s talk about how to do it best.
